Individuals With Disabilities

For many years, individuals with Intellectual and developmental disabilities were relegated to living their lives in an institution that was often removed from their natural family or community. Others were isolated in their family’s home with minimal interaction with those in the community where they resided. For more than 30 years, PFH and the many organizations that are now encompassed within PFH, have compassionately served hundreds of individuals so they can live successfully in their own homes and participate in their communities.

Preferred Community Services focuses on care that is individualized, community-based, and designed to enhance an individual’s quality of life.

We support people in building their own lives, in their own homes, and in their own communities:

  • Improve physical health and development.
  • Improve language and communication.
  • Teach social skills.
  • Achieve increased levels of learning and reasoning.
  • Ensuring all health and safety needs are met.
  • Participating in community activities.
  • Teaching household and independent living skills.
  • Modeling social skills.
  • Supporting people to advocate for themselves.
  • Accessing leisure activities.
  • Helping to obtain and maintain a job, when desired.

Helping people to achieve their highest level of independence.

Preferred Community Services provides activities and Day Programs in communities throughout Missouri for both people with developmental disabilities, as well as senior citizens. These services are designed to:

  • Improve physical health and development.
  • Improve language and communication.
  • Teach social skills.
  • Achieve increased levels of learning and reasoning.
