Committed to ending domestic violence in our community since 1979, Bridgeway provides a vast array of services to individuals and groups. Bridgeway operates the only two emergency safe shelters and outreach support centers in St. Charles and Lincoln Counties for women and children who are victims of domestic violence. Immediate intervention is available through our Toll-Free 24-Hour Crisis Lines.
Two crisis hotlines are operated by Bridgeway staff and volunteers for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their loved ones. Safety planning information and referrals to other programs are provided when necessary.

Some victims of domestic violence do not need shelter, but desperately need support. We offer individual and group counseling support, education, legal advocacy, life-skills training and outreach services. Community education and school presentations are also available for interested groups.

We provide emergency shelter in St. Charles & Lincoln Counties for women and their children who are experiencing intimate partner abuse and immediate danger. The standard length of stay is six weeks. While some shelters have an age limit for children, we accept children up to age the of seventeen. Upon entering the shelter, women receive personal hygiene items and emergency clothing. Children also receive backpacks filled with toys, activity books, and school supplies upon shelter admittance. All services are free.
Leaving an abusive relationship and the time immediately thereafter is the most dangerous time for women. Please contact our hotline for safety planning or you can look under our “Resources” section on the right for additional safety planning information available online.

A weekly support group is held at both shelters for women in the shelter as well as women in the community who are or have experienced domestic violence. The Lincoln County support group is held on Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00. The St. Charles County support group is held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30. Free childcare may be provided. Please contact the shelter locations in advance for further information and to ensure childcare is being offered.
