Halo Tulsa

What is HALO Tulsa?

HALO Tulsa is a 10-week intensive outpatient program that helps foster and adoptive families build stronger relationships and improve attachment and connection. Each week, families attend a two-hour HALO night where:

Children develop skills for meaningful connections, empowerment, and attachment.

Caregivers learn about trauma, its impact on the brain and development, and how to create healthy, safe connections.

HALO is rooted in Trust Based Relational Interventions, or TBRI, which is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children.

Enrolled families receive 50 hours of therapy (20 hours of group for the parents, 20 hours of group for the children and 10 hours of family therapy)

Caregivers participate in 10 weeks of Trauma Education Classes, which enable caregivers to learn more about trauma and its effects and how to build healthy, safe connections with the children in their care. Sessions include: the connecting, correcting, empowering, and correcting principles of TBRI®, experiential exercises, group discussion and role-play.

HALO Kids Club gives children the opportunity to improve their interaction and attachment skills.

Each family attends family therapy once a week to address more personalized needs.

Additional Programs offered by the HALO Tulsa team:

  • Making Sense of Your Worth
  • The Connected Parent – Parenting for Positive Self Worth – Coming Soon

What are families saying about HALO Tulsa?

We’ve received remarkable feedback so far from the first parents and caregivers to take part in HALO programming.

Parenting before HALO

Life was stressful and hectic. (My child) was always angry, I was angry a lot as well and we did not know how to communicate with each other. He never listened to me and always talked back

Parenting before HALO

It was frustrating. I only had tools I was handed down and they weren’t working well. My son is very strong-willed, and I didn’t know how to ‘control’ him. I was trying really hard to hold onto that control and he was resisting at every turn.

Parenting before HALO

Our family life is chaotic due to having multiple kids with traumatic backgrounds and special needs. It is hard to slow down and focus on the triggers for behaviors and the most effective methods of correction. We felt like we could learn how to help each one of our kids.

After HALO

A lot calmer, we talk with each other instead of at each other. We have learned how to communicate with each other (in a way) that meets both our needs. There is trust between us and a lot more one-on-one time.

After HALO

It is improving every day. I am practicing and learning new skills daily. I feel like parenting the TBRI way is more about my responses and reactions. I am re-learning ways to lead my child to make better choices. The more I practice my parenting skills the less conflicts we seem to have.

After HALO

We are more confident in dealing with our adopted children. We are more focused on our caregiver styles of attachment and what we need to work on to parent more effectively.
