What is Prevention?

Prevention: prəˈven(t)SH(ə)n/: Prevention is an empowering process that promotes individuals, family, and community health through life by using effective and practical strategies to identify and strengthen protective factors that contribute to well-being, identify and address risk factors that interfere with well-being, and identify and intervene on behaviors that lead to disease.

The goal of the Prevention Department is to reduce alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among youth and adults within our communities served, and to assist communities in developing and maintaining coalitions, tasks forces, and teams to combat substance use issues through prevention practices, programs, and policies. Preferred Family Healthcare is a Prevention Resource Center, certified by Missouri’s Division of Behavioral Health prevention initiative.
